Do you ever feel like you are in the middle of the forest and can't see a way out when trying to monitor your competition? For entrepreneurs, keeping an eye on what your competition is doing and saying is just one of the many hats you wear every day. Equally important is to know what their customers are saying. As a product manager who focuses on tools for commerce customers, I am also very interested in tools for social monitoring that are both usable and valuable.
Perch is a lovely little app that allows you to create a watch list of the businesses you want to monitor. Perch will collect all of the activity for the businesses in the watch list from Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google+, Instagram, Foursquare, Groupon, and Living Social. It is nice to have a consolidated list of reviews, social posts, and promotions for everyone in your watch list in one place. The activity feed includes posts from the past 14 days.
Perch has the benefit of being useful to business owners and consumers. Business owners can use the app to track themselves and their competition. They can also use the app to give their promotions and reviews more visibility. Perch is yet another channel for customers to discover small businesses and make informed decisions based on social activity.
The downside of this app is that it can be hard to find all of the businesses you want to follow - it is dependent on them being registered with Foursquare. That being said, I think Perch has a lot of potential and some hidden potential that you might not realize at the start.
